Review by Sylvie Marie & HerSong Staff

The W.A M. Awards celebrate the year’s most outstanding independent artists from around the world in multiple genres and categories. "Best Song" and "Best Album" nominations were based on Artistry, Musicianship, Originality, Professionalism, Diversity, and Excellence. W.A.M. stands for "We Are the Music Makers.' Deanna DeMola's song "Next Generation" was the 2020 W.A.M. Award Winner for HerSong Female Artist of the Year.

Deanna Demola will be the first person to tell you that a few years ago, she began to struggle with depression and anxiety. She felt lost and hopeless, and those feelings only grew over time. It was through her music, that DeMola found way to express what she was feeling. So it no surprise that this young, talented artist also found a way to express the fears and hopes of the "Next Generation."

Partnering with Songwriter and Producer, Jimmy Greco, DeMola achieves a radio-ready synth-driven ssound that is as good as it gets, even better than good - fantastic. A "whoosh" of energy commences the song as pristine production work sets a euphoric-pop mood. The groove is mellow, yet intense. DeMola enters singing,

"On the surface, picture perfect’s what you see /How we’re privileged have such animosity / Prescription pills‘ you prescribed to numb all our pain / Stirring hate and preying on our insecurities / can’t you see we’re the ones our world needs

DeMola's voice is smooth and intoxicating. Vocal layering and harmonies are added, creating a full sound. Deanna does not present her message with animosity or bitterness. The overall vibe is contemplative and confident as she sings about the judgements made on her generation and how for her, and many others, having your own voice and giving that voice everything you've got will ultmately be your salvation. The highly memorable chorus seeps into you and stays around for a long time with a calm assurance. The lyrics are intelligent and through-provoking: "We’re free we’re the next generation The Music is our salvation We’re gonna give it all, cause we are all we got now. Right now we give it all."

As 2020 comes to an end and the New Year is upon us, Deanna DeMola's "Next Generation" is a song for our times, and the "Next Generation" is our hope for a better tomorrow. With songs that express real emotions with honesty and courage, DeMola is a voice we can relate to and connect with. DeMola is certainly "giving it all" to her music and message and her passion shines through. Check out Deanna DeMola and add "Next Generation" to your best songs of 2020 playlist.
